The talk will review some recent results on orthogonal polynomials and Christoel functions where fast
decreasing polynomials (pin polynomials) played an essential role. We shall also review the construction
and the role of fast decreasing polynomials on the real line and on compact subsets of the complex plane.
Applications towards zero distribution of orthogonal polynomials will be given
